Marching band got off to a rough start last season when Miriam had to come to grips with all the extra time and effort the season demands. This year, she enthusiastically approached the hours of rehearsals, camps, performances and competitions because she knew that all the hard work would pay off.
Miriam played second bass drum for the High Desert (a combined Bonneville/Hillcrest) Marching Band. Their show theme was "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves," so the kids got to dress up as merry men and play music from the movie.
They performed at two half-time shows (one for Bonneville; one for Hillcrest) and took home trophies from all four of the competitions they attended. They didn't get first place at all of them, but they still scored high and took home the most coveted prize: the Gem State Award for the highest scoring band from Idaho.
Heading back to her table after receiving the Outstanding Sophomore award at the end-of-season banquet. This award is voted on by all members of the band. I signed up to be in charge of the banquet, and with the help of others, it turned out well.
