Easter

The week prior to Easter, we enjoyed the April General Conference (Sunday, April 2).

Andrea and Ana working on a puzzle while listening to Conference.

Miriam on the couch.

Rebekah on the couch.

Inspired by Elder Stevenson's talk from General Conference, we tried to put extra emphasis on the holiday this year. Every night during our family scripture reading time, we focused on what happened on the corresponding day of Holy Week. We also tried to cover all our regular Easter traditions. That included Resurrection Rolls (Wednesday, April 5):

Miriam, Rebekah and Winnie rolling up their marshmallows dipped in butter, cinnamon and sugar in crescent rolls.

We also enjoyed a delicious Easter dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Scott's house with an egg hunt and scripture reading (Sunday, April 9).

Miriam, Canyon, Andra and McKall at Grandma's.
Seth measuring Rebekah's head. Everyone wanted to know if they had humongous Grover noggins.

Winnie running to get eggs.

Winnie, Ana and Bennet in the snowy yard.

Divvying up Easter egg contents after the hunt.

Seth, Dennis and Susan. My parents invited Seth's parents since we had already had our Grover Easter dinner at Rachel's house the day before.

Lincoln school

Grandma Scott arranged for us to take a tour of the Lincoln Alternative High School (formerly Lincoln Elementary) where she attended as a child and where her grandpa served as a principal and teacher. Although I've driven past the school a million times (especially when I lived in Cloverdale and we were going to Grandma and Grandpa Wirkus' house), I had never been inside. Aunt Marta made the drive from South Jordan so she could be a part of the tour as well.

Meeting Grandma in the parking lot.

Meeting in the old church house (now the administrative offices of Lincoln High School) with our tour guide.

Group pose outside the school.

Coming down from the highest point in the school. The room at the top used to be my great-grandpa's office. Now it's a storage room.

Winnie fitting in between the bike bars out front.

Scott reunion

We hadn't been able to go for a few years (last year the reunion was scheduled the same day as a ballroom competition, and a couple years before that we were in the throes of COVID), but we did make it down to Stone for the annual Walter and Jiammia Scott reunion. Ana didn't even throw up on the drive there. We enjoyed good food, good weather and good company.

Miriam and Seth in the school cafeteria.

Eating lunch with Aunt Jessica.

Easton patiently waiting for Winnie to eat so they could go outside and play.
Miriam modeling her new hanafuda earrings purchased with some birthday money and Ana modeling Seth's hat.

Seth asleep on the gym floor.

Seth asleep on the couch in the front hallway.

Rebekah asleep in the car on the way home. Either this reunion was really boring, or these guys were extremely tired.

Miriam is 13!

And her mom is finally blogging about it!

Miriam's birthday fell on a Monday this year, so we had a family birthday dinner for her on Sunday where we ate delicious breakfast burritos (I had good practice making them since I signed up to provide breakfast burritos to all the ballroom dancers while they were an nationals in Provo) and birthday cake. Her grandparents and cousins came to celebrate with her.

Miriam with her fruit and breakfast burrito.

Opening a card. Miriam received cash from her grandparents, finger lights and cash from Aunt Rachel's family, Swedish fish from Uncle T's family, and a coupon for books from us.

Miriam's cake was a play on the demon cake from a Saturday Night Live skit. Below is the cake from the skit:

Even though the girls hadn't seen the skit before (we looked it up and watched most of it so they understood the background), they somehow knew of the cake, and Miriam wanted her birthday cake to resemble it. I honestly can't find any pictures of the cake right now (if I do, I'll come back and place them here), but it did turn out to be slightly cuter than this one.

The day after Miriam's birthday, the correct present arrived from Amazon. We had ordered her this My Hero Academia hoodie, but the first one we received was a zip-up instead of a pullover. Amazon is good about returns, though, so we were able to send the first one back and get the right one.

On her actual birthday, she didn't have school (it was the Monday after spring break, but the secondary kids have an intervention day on Monday, and Miriam's grades were more than sufficient), but she did have a drum set lesson at Chesbro Music. And Jonah, her teacher, let her have it for free.
