End of year for Winnie

Just when I think we could never possibly fit in more activities into a few weeks, April and especially May come by and slaps me in the face with nonstop events. We're going to categorize these by child. First up: the youngest.

Sunday, April 16: Piano recital

Winnie played "Theme by Haydn," "Musette" and "A Funny Event."

Wednesday, April 19: Pinewood Derby

Winnie and her friends in the Parri Wood getting ready to race their cars. The girls chose their car design, and someone in the ward cut them to their specifications. The Young Women helped them paint their cars, and the priests put their wheels and axles in. We didn't see or touch the car until the night of the event, so we were able to make sure everything ran smoothly and quickly. I honestly don't know how the boys worked on their cars.

Winnie reacts to one of her races. Her car was perfectly average; it placed right in the middle. The Primary hired a guy to bring in his fancy track that can tell you your car's time down to the hundredth of a second. At the end of all the races, he put the loop-the-loop on the track so kids could see if their car could make it all the way around.

Thursday, May 11: D.A.R.E. graduation

Winnie shakes hands with the officers during her D.A.R.E. graduation at the Hillcrest Performing Arts Center. We've only had parents and not siblings attend graduation in the past, so Winnie didn't know that the D.A.R.E. officers would play in a band at the end of the graduation. That was a good surprise.

Tuesday, May 16: 5th grade bike ride

Annalise Westover and Winnie ride their bikes from Ucon Elementary to Iona Park. Half of the district's 5th graders rode their bikes to the park on Tuesday, and the other half rode their bikes to the park on Wednesday. The Fairview and Ucon kids ride the farthest.

Winnie playing Down by the Banks with friends at the park. Once the kids all got to the park, they got to play until it was time to eat. After eating a little bit more playing, they packed up and rode their bikes back to Ucon and boarded the bus for Fairview. Each elementary school had its own color of T-shirt. Fairview was supposed to get neon yellow, but Miss Murphy's class petitioned the principal (with a Google Slides presentation) to get something less offensive to the eyes.
