Poor kitty boy

One day in April, we noticed that Toad wouldn't put any weight on one of his front paws. The day after we noticed that, we realized that his paw was very swollen. We took him into the vet on April 12 where he had a couple of X-rays and we learned that he had a broken toe. How did he break it? Being an outdoor cat, we have no way of monitoring all his movements and activities, so we have no idea. The poor boy had to wear a splint for a week and stay inside. We put the cover over his pet door so he was trapped in the shop, and he had to get used to staying in there and plodding around in a splint.

Being inside 24/7 wasn't fun for Toad. He would try to escape from the shop as we would come and go. Sometimes we'd give him some supervised outside time to quell his need for nature. After a week, we took him back in where he got a replacement splint. A week after that, they took the splint off and told us that we should keep him "inside and quiet" for another 3-4 weeks. I think we made it about one week before we decided that he could be free once again. But we watched him very closely to make sure he wasn't favoring that paw at all.
